玻璃纤维与天然生成的纤维素纤维不同之处在于其截面呈圆形，笔直且直径不变，能制得很微细,密度比纤维素纤维和大多数人造纤维高得多，可用的温度范围也大得多。玻璃纤维毫无天然纤维那样的润胀或帚化现象，以及不算太优异的耐化学性和非吸湿性， 因此玻璃纤维是一种良好的过滤材料。但是由于玻璃纤维成纸强度不好，所以，可以与其他强度好的植物纤维进行配抄来获得性能很好的过滤材料。罗果等对玻璃纤维与植物纤维的配抄性能研究，试验发现：用25%的玻璃纤维和75%的剑麻纤维，打浆度为36○SR时进行配抄，其强度和松厚度能达到过滤材料的要求。
